Fuck. This is why I think international travel needs to be a standard part of U.S. education. I don't care if every set of parents has to suck cock all day every third Sunday for a year to raise the money to do it. The ease with which many people forget about the rest of the world outside of North America is awful.Very little, and it's part of a larger trend in the United States where you're seeing shades of neo-isolationism across party lines. This is not simply a Democratic or Republican phenomenon. It goes beyond intervention fatigue. There's a real focus on things domestic. There is, I believe, a lack of appreciation of the potential of the United States to do good in the world at a reasonable cost. There's also an underappreciation of the potential for things happening out there to come here at considerable cost to ourselves. I also worry that we're not building support at home for what you might call "responsible internationalism."
