i've said it before and i'll say it again, neither the US nor Japan can afford to do what it takes to make China back down. this isn't about the islands. it's about power. they're pushing this kind of thing several places, not just in the Senkaku islands. it's a deliberate strategy to raise their importance as a global power, and they know they can win.
