Am I correct in thinking the answer to "Whatever happened to ringtones?" is related to the decline of ringtones recently?
iTunes makes is practically free to make a ringtone for any iProduct and a large percentage of regular cell phone lines. Tech savvy individuals (read: younger) have figured this out and dramatically undercut that market. Unsavvy people (older, less technically inclined, ambivalent) will undoubtedly continue to purchase ringtones along traditional lines. I personally never buy ringtones because I can't stand what is traditionally marketed and sold. My main ringtone right now is the opening 30 seconds of the Lion King's "Circle of Life" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX07j9SDFcc
