a) That seems like a good blog. I'll have to check back. b) I need to reread Devil in the White City. c) "Whatever happened to world fairs" is an interesting question. The 'brave new world' lyric and the 1984 group-singing overtones aren't coincidental; neither are the religious references the blogger makes. The things really were big orgiastic summa cum laude capitalism sessions. World fairs seem to have died along with capitalism (maybe just in the States). Meanwhile, naturally, the lives upper middle class Americans lead are a thousand times better/different than any fair ever guessed.
