Isn't the dark pushed back a bit if you are alone in a dark place and a voice speaks out of the darkness and says, "You're not alone"? Isn't the dark pushed back a bit if you need confidence to move out of the darkness? And a voice speaks out of the darkness and says, "You can do it. You can leave that dark place. You can dump that chump or find new friends or face down the bullies or gain some perspective or be less binary." And you do.
