EDIT: so now I've looked at your profile, welcome to hubski, that Vonnegut quote has had a great impact on my life. When I read it, it occurred to me that I generally only acknowledge my lack of pain when I'm in pain, which is a surprisingly large amount of the time. Tooth problem, headache, stubbed toe, whatever. And it is a condition of the human mind that a lack of pain does not automatically cause us to think, golly gee what a day I'm having, whereas any bit of pain no matter how minor will occupy our attention interminably. This is among the many things the mind does by default that I do not like, so I resolved to change mine. Thus I literally say to myself, every few days, it's nice not to be in any pain right now. It's a good way to stay grounded. Anyway, you can ignore this.
