no one can say we don't deserve it. We've done it to ourselves, and we even had years to mitigate it and we did nothing.

I read a book called "Geography of Genius" a while back, and one quote stuck out to me, from Plato.

"What is honoured in a country will be cultivated there."

While it can be a positive, where the honouring of innovation can bring forth a further cultivation of the same, It can also be a negative, where an honouring of antiintellectualism brings forth a popularity in concepts that are based in that style of thinking - climate change denial, cultural isolationism, fear of the "other", american exceptionalism.

At a fundamental level, it means "you get what you deserve". I guess if anyone's going to be right, it's Plato - He called last year's election from 2 millennia away.
