People think of our memory as a hard drive, and we just access a part of it, and there is the perfect memory... pristine and unaltered as the day it happened.

It doesn't work that way.

Memory is recipe. Like a mixed drink. You think, "I'd like to remember this specific event", and your mind goes back to the recipe and makes that drink again.

But it is NOW and not THEN. And we are out of Beefeater, so we used Tanqueray, and there is a straw instead of a swizzle stick, and the ice is cubes instead of a single sphere.

But hey... it feels similar, so we call it a "memory".

Scientists have studied people's brains as they remember something, and the brain is actually RE-LIVING it. Not WATCHING it. All the receptors and areas are lighting up as if we are actually re-experiencing the event. Not passively watching it go by on a screen, like a movie.

Now think about this, and what these women have gone through.

Think about what it takes to remember a fat, sweaty, hairy disgusting fuck like Harvey Weinstein - the guy with the keys to your one and only career - trying to rape you. And she is RE-LIVING the event. Not passively watching on a screen.

THAT is why it takes so long for these things to come to light, and for women to be willing to speak of the events.
