This is how I know we're fucked: someone says that the negative attributes attributed to men are actually things everyone struggles with, men and women both, and this is somehow sexist. Critchton wasn't trying to be scientific, he was trying to explain an issue that men face (speaking from experience here). Your reaction is exactly why no one is willing to talk about this anymore (probably why it seems "dated").
