For me, my first fantasy was The Hobbit, probably in 6th or 7th grade. After that I went downhill and read the Dragonlance series. I grew up tabletop RPG gaming, and it was almost impossible to game at that time and not read Dragonlance. Oh, and Forgotten Realms stuff too. :) Maybe due to the quality of those books, I strayed away from Fantasy/Sci-Fi for a time. I mostly read classics and history now, but some Fantasy/Sci-Fi I have enjoyed was To Reign in Hell by Steven Brust, All My Sins Remembered by Joe Haldeman, and the first of the Hyperion books by Dan Simmons. Oh, I recently read The Once and Future King by T. H. White, which is a wonderful book.
I'm not a very systematic reader when it comes to those genres. However, I do find myself enjoying a lot of Sc-Fi/Fantasy that I am recommended. It's ridiculous, I haven't even read Dune yet. I know I will, -I'm kind of saving that one.
