A lot of people are quick to write off comics, but in Transmetropolitan Warren Ellis addresses things like this. One of the ways that one of his characters communicates is through informational pheromones and bacteria. The idea of Psynese is interesting, though I think that even with advanced technology there might be intermediate steps to what he's envisioning. Either way, it would have to be something that can achieve a density of meaning and nuance in ways that language simply can't.
