I wasn't alive during the moon landing, but from what I understand there was a lot of excitement about it in all levels of both American society and in other nations. Somewhere along the way though, in the American popular-consciousness space and astronauts have become just another part of the cultural noise. I really hope that Chris Hadfield's use of social media will help to reignite public imagination around the world, that it'll stop people, force them to rub their eyes and realize how amazing it is to be alive right now.
