It's pretty sad that this is a valid reason why a redistricting plan is legal. I'm in favor of a constitutional amendment that says that congressional districts must minimize the total perimeter of districts while maintaining equal population. As far as I can com up with, that's the only way to ensure a relatively random party distribution within a state. Gerrymandering is a crime against the people, even people whose preferred party is in power, because it takes away the one thing we're supposed to have in a democracy: choice. Anyone else have any ideas that would lawfully bar gerrymandering?
