"Tribute to my Left Hand”
stone
8x8x5” (20x20x13cm)
I’d always known I wanted to sculpt with stone, and with the gift card to the local art store my in-laws gave me as a Christmas present, I was able to pick up the necessary supplies and get sculpting. It only makes sense that this transition to a new medium would coincide with my thirtieth birthday (fourth of January).
I am personally baffled by how intuitive creating in three dimensions feels. When painting I feel as if I’m sculpting, and as I was working on this piece I felt that same energy coming through.
To be honest I’m not sure how sustainable this creation method is. My shoulders, neck, wrist, and forearms are quite sore from these past two days of sculpting.
Though, the itch to create with marble is reeeaaallllyyyy calling my name. Notice the spot in the sculpture where a part fell off?
Fun fact: this stone was originally 21lbs (9.5kg) and went down to about 6 lbs (2.7kg)
I might be into the idea of selling this piece, but since it’s my first stone sculpture I’m also into the idea of keeping it forever. If you’re interested in purchasing, send me a message and let’s talk ;)
Shoutout to Mark D Maker who’s youtube videos on stone sculpting are as informative as they are awkward
