I used to teach English to a community college Law and Security class. One of the assignments involved teaching the students how to keep a police notebook. One student wrote in his notebook:

1900: Headed towards Brampton in the squad car and cursed the neighbourhood.

In early September 2009, one of my students missed the first class when he was stranded in China due to a very bad storm. He sent me this email:

Sorry that I wasn't in class. There was a tycoon and my plane was delayed.
