Im sitting in the quiet library eating some chips when I realize that chips suck as a library snack - they are messy and so damn loud! I started wondering what else I could eat when im in the library and decided to ask you guys for some ideas. So what do you like to eat through the day?
Im looking for something that doesn't need to be refrigerated and can last in my backpack for several hours before I head to the library at the end of the day. So if you have a good idea for a snack that fits that criteria or already have one that works, let me know!
Clif bars are so dry. I always feel like I need a gallon of water whenever I eat one haha. But yeah, I might cut one up into little bits and put them in my trail mix.
Trail mix, and you can easily make your own concoctions with the balance of nuts/dried fruit/chocolate chips/seeds you like. Pour it all together and store in an airtight jar, and just take a serving out in a smaller pot or bag. Ingredients I really enjoy include: - dried cherries
- dried mulberries
- banana chips
- dark chocolate chips
- dried raspberries
- macadamia nuts
- inca berries
My suggestion would be Curly Wurly. You will chew more that 10 minutes on a single one :D
Are you Australian? I actually tried my first Curly Wurly when I was down there and my god I was chewing for what seemed like forever haha. I still have a pack of tim tams that I refuse to open until after finals haha.
I'm from Germany and you can buy them in the supermarket over here. I don't know where you live, but you might be interested in this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HNF8ZW/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=...
Mason jars work really well to hold things you might not otherwise bring. A few examples: Oatmeal stays good for plenty long is healthy, and can be reheated. Make a big pot on Sunday and bring it throughout the week. Mix with berries, honey, nuts. Plus it's cheap! You can do jar salads too. They're a bit crunchy, I guess, but probably passable. Soups. Cold soups or perhaps a gazpacho, work well, and you can bring a spoon or drink straight from the jar. Additionally, a lot of places on my campus had microwaves, so you could possibly have hot soup as well.
Carrots can stand not being refrigerated for a while. You prepare them a bit in advance - peel them and cut them into easily edible sticks. Wrap them in foil paper, and there you go! Not messy, not noisy, and quite healthy. Apples are also pretty neat, but can get a bit messier if they are juicy. Bananas are great too.
Not sure about this one. I havent had them in a while so i might need to try them again, but last time I tried them I wasnt a fan haha.
Pistachios. They are delicious and you have to eat them slow and also help if you have an oral fixation like me. No more chewed up pens / cigarette cravings. Also go great with Swedish Fish.
I think the conscious here is some form of nut/chocolate/dried fruit combination, and since I love pistachios I think I'll be adding them to my trail mix haha. Cant say the same about Swedish fish though - always make me feel like I need to brush my teeth afterwards haha
Pistachio pro tip - use a shell to pry open the stubborn ones.
That only worls when theres a little crack in them. When you get the ones with no crack then youre pretty much screwed haha. I usually just throw them to my dog who somehow manages to get them open and eat the insides haha.
Okay. The horrific image I had in my head previously has tempered my reaction to the combination of jelly and pistachio to the point where it seems perfectly reasonable. Tasty, even.
As a comp sci major who tries to avoid greasy/crumbly/etc food and snacks, this is a topic I always come to. I try to stay away from cookies/chips/trail mix because of crumbs. And as a fan of Japan (and having local Japanese markets around), I like to pick up some japanese snacks. And they work so perfectly because Japan has that same ideology. Hi-Chew is really good. It's like a mix between starbursts and gum. Quiet, not messy, chewy, and tastes good. And unlike gum you can just swallow it once you are done. The downside is the amount of wrappers the snack leaves behind. They come in packs of 10, and each are individually wrapped as well. I also like Pocky as a snack. They are pretzel sticks with a chocolate coating. The ends are left uncoated so you can hold them without getting chocolate on your hands. They are decently clean, still a bit crumbly though (not as bad as chips). They taste great (who doesn't like chocolate?) and they come in a few packs contained in a box. Or you can just buy the packs individually. The only problem is that they don't really last a long time.
I like the Pocky idea. I might just bring a bag of pretzels and dip them in nutella haha. Might get kinda messy though.
Cocoa covered almonds or wasabi peas are some of my favorites.
I like almonds and always keep them in my desk at work. Sunflower seeds as well.
Any nuts, trail mix, and/or granola bars. Neither of them need refrigeration, they can easily be fitted into backpacks, they aren't loud when consumed, nor are they particularly messy. Plus they taste great and can be healthy for you (healthier than chips anyway).
