I have had thoughts along similar lines. I think we might have even postulated the possibility of fake hacks here, used as an excuse for tighter controls. However, my thought is that LulzSec feels that the state is not making a good enough effort towards their vision of communication and privacy. As a result, they are doing what they feel they must. In some sense, as the author even alludes to, this is an older, more conservative person chiding rebellious youth. Both viewpoints are needed, IMHO.
I think this is the third 'open letter to LulzSec' that I've seen. Probably the most reasonable. I sympathize with both LulzSec and this author. -Thanks for pointing it out.
