Before I die I want to take my daughter on a four day hike of the old Inca trail to Machu Picchu. Oh, and enlightenment... enlightenment would be nice.

Here's a similar question I posed from a while back if you're interested: What's on your bucket list?.

Sparsile, the things you mention are things that are within your internal control. Is there anything physical you'd like to accomplish? Jump out of a plane, make beef bourguignon, run a marathon? You know... bucket list stuff.

Oh yes those sound great as well! There is so much to do/accomplish that it's extremely hard to pick any one thing!

Thanks, I'll check that out too! :)

Hmm, let's see..

Before I die I want to invent technology that will enable people to wake up from their slumber and become empowered and excited to do something worthwhile with their lives.

Too many people nowadays are just sheep living out their lives doing nothing but succumbing to the 9 to 5 paradigm and being worn and stressed out when they're at home. Dying before they even realized they were actually living. I'd love to help change that. Haven't settled yet on what exactly that technology would be, but that's be my highest goal! (TED for example is doing great on this area already!)

Also, Before I die I want to have travelled to all of Earth's continents at least once.

Have you heard the Alan Watts talk on Nothingness? I find it to be a good motivator on the days when I accidentally slip in to the mindset you describe. For the most part, I think I'm pretty good at being highly motivated and in the moment but there are times when I fall in to the abyss of complacency. -Life's too short for such things!

Good luck with that technology!! Let me know when you've thought of what that might be.

Oh and I hadn't heard of Alan Watts before.

Thanks for that link! I didn't quite understand what he meant with "Nothing" until later in the video, but it is indeed a good motivator and great insight! Thanks for sharing!

I try my best to remain in this somewhat "enlightened"/motivated/"in the moment" state of mind, but I find it hard to maintain all the time. I usually have periods where I'm in that state and periods where I'm totally being carried away with daily things that don't really matter. My biggest difficulty is during the year at uni, life just tends to flash by in an instant without really paying attention to it. Though I intend to try and maintain it even when life gets busy again soon..!

Hope it's alright if I revive some of the older hubski posts!

I'm enjoying this discussion, I don't think any topics are closed off just because someone already posted about them. I can't speak for the whole of Hubski but as far as I'm concerned... bring on the revival!

Yes same here! Okay! :P

I replied to your comment in the Nothingness post, but I guess it will still notify you about it.
