That was a good read. I'm a bit confused though.

    Their resistance to authority dates back centuries, to when illegally distilling whiskey was big business and eluding federal agents was a crucial part of the enterprise.

Is this referring to Prohibition? Prohibition in the U.S. existed from 1919-1933, in which case "centuries" is an inaccurate word choice. So am I missing something?

Well written, though I do think it should have been a bit shorter. All those twists and turns and for what?

Yeah, the unfolding twists made you think that an elaborate network of conspiracy was behind it when it turned out (spoiler?) that it was somewhat of the dullest explanation. Still, it does such a great job of exploring William as a person. It's tragic, but I was glad to have read it.
