Yeesh, you know, that is such hard question, but one that doctors have to ask themselves objectively. Taking recidivism into consideration, maybe a few of those mothers have been or continue to be "in the system." One could argue that committing crimes and staying within the system is detrimental to their children's lives, in which case I support this medical procedure. Counseling and information should be key in bringing the subject up -- I believe the women's feelings should also be considered.
It sounds as though the "consulting" is what is some of the doctors are being accused of.
I know that the PC thing to say is, "this is horrendous!" But nobody can tell me that they didn't read that quote and think to themselves somewhere in the corners of their mind, "umm... you definitely should never have another child." Bottom line, she signed off on it. Also, dollars to donuts that she is a bad mother. Just a guess."As soon as he found out that I had five kids, he suggested that I look into getting it done. The closer I got to my due date, the more he talked about it," said Christina Cordero, 34, who spent two years in prison for auto theft. "He made me feel like a bad mother if I didn't do it."
