I've definitely had friends that have moved to a different part of the country (or world) and their belief system changes, sometimes significantly. Even intelligent people are incredibly susceptible to the lure of assimilation. After all, we all just want to sit at the cool lunch table.

That is why political "news" shows are so popular...they tell people what to think and they lap it up.
I'm all about people learning to appreciate and respect the culture in a new environment. I wish more people were willing to set aside their views and see the world with open eyes. (I know, I know. I'm a dreamer).
