Funny that thenewgreen linked to mk's post because I connected the exact same dots. I do think it's essential for any journalistic enterprise that is serious about examining a subject to use the long form essay. And it seems to me that on the surface, the long form says that the editors have a committed agenda. Personally, I'm more satisfied with my media intake when I've taken to time to read one quality article as opposed to 3 or 4 mediocre ones. From what I can tell, as long as it's necessary to analyze and communicate our complex world, the long form isn't going anywhere.
