It was a shocking difference. Still, I can see what NotPhil means when he says,
    Initially mundane circumstances suddenly run out of control and characters are pushed beyond their limits.
This certainly happens in both films. -Overtly so in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. When watching both films, you can't help but ask yourself how you would behave in the same situation. This is a powerful thing for a director to be able to pull off. While the prospect of being on Jury duty is far more likely than robbing your families jewelry store... perhaps lifting a $100 bill from your moms purse isn't so far fetched. -There's a line there between the two but where is it?
