I have a wide circle of friends in various professions... Not a single one of them said that the math I described was necessary in their profession. This misses the point also. We can argue about how math should be taught, but I think the book is closed on whether it should be taught. Learning math is more about mental exercise ans problem solving as it is the actual material. If this guy has 2 master's degrees (probably in business, I suppose), runs a large company but can't do basic algebra, then I question what he learned at university. Maybe this is why Wall Street got so out of control. The people running the businesses went through college to get a degree, but didn't really learn anything of value. I suppose this same gentleman would fail a philosophy test and retort that he "never had to quote Voltaire at work".
