The comments contain a few insightful gems. Regarding the objections raised (by a commenter) that "this is just dualism in a new guise" one would like to note the following as a 'hint':
There is a very interesting and intriguing symmetry in a few sacred texts that depict 'higher realms' in terms of inversion of scales, orientation, etc. For example, the Sacred Tree has "roots in heaven" and "leaves below". Atman (The Supreme/Exalted Person) or al-ALI (The Most High) -- both names for The ONE -- are "innermost".
Matter is not the root of Mind. And self is not the unit of Self.
