Why is this gawker-eque article a pdf with a usenix advertisement attached to it? Perhaps I am I missing a joke, but with how unsubtle he is about his jokes I dont think I am.

I found this really lame attempt at a humorish social commentary to be bland and really without substance. When you go so far overboard you lose a sense of grounding. Author makes snide comments about how people in the security industry make snide comments. Sorry, I just really didn't find his over the top, I know better than you do stance on "comedy" funny. Felt like I was wasting my time listening to someone who thinks he's more funny than he really is spew unedited dribble.

I will give him credit for not having very many typos, and yes security researchers tend to focus on tasks that are interesting to them and many still act like they are in middle school. That's pretty much the internet in general, but it's somehow magnified and much more perverse in the security industry. It's kind of like the transformation that occurs when someone logs into xbox live.

Different tastes, I guess. It's absurdist, and I think it's absolutely hilarious.

To your first question, he's a researcher at Microsoft that writes these once a month.
