Could say something flippant like "welcome to Cory Doctorow" but really you're right. I'm not sure exactly where I stand on open copyright and the anti-patent movement. On one hand, I think it's doomed to fail and we may as well start thinking of new solutions now. On the other, rewarding innovators is a cornerstone of our economy; messing with that fundamental fact is trouble. But there's no question the laws on the books now need to be smarter.
Oh, no doubt. I bought a Roomba off the guy; hung out at his house for like half an hour. On the one hand, the DMCA is bullshit and anti-competitive. On the other hand, without some form of rights management you end up with an even more ugly, even more restrictive system.
