Here's a picture of 13 pelicans. They can all fly. These are brown eastern pelicans, not as big-mouthed as those gorgeous Tanzanian ones. This was my view from lunch yesterday.
I think there are some really beautiful seabirds and estuarine birds and I think in general, they photograph pretty well. In real life they are often gross and stinky, like a lot of lifeforms, but with the added bonus of having a lot of really terrible poop. I was once in a car when a great blue heron decided to drop its guts. It was like someone knocked a can of paint off of a ladder. Still, I'd like to be friends with a pelican.
