I like how Pitchfork has a bar at the top that tracks your progress through the article. Anyway Cloud Nothings are probably my favorite band right now, and have been since Attack on Memory blew everything else in 2012 out of the water. Turning On and Cloud Nothings are two of the best straight up lo-fi / twee albums in recent memory as well. P4K is spot on with declaring "Forget You All the Time" as one of their best early songs. Dylan Baldi is one of the most talented songwriters out there today and he really seems to be an unassuming and intelligent person who happens to make great music. I could easily type up 500 words on this band. Holy hell. Talk about a way to introduce yourselves as band... I would love to see a Baldi/Brown collaboration though, that would have so much potential. Also, this reminded me to buy a ticket for their show in Allston so thanks for that.At the band's first-ever show—opening for Real Estate and Woods in Brooklyn at the end of 2009—
Cloud Nothings has been one of my favorite bands since Turning On and Leave You Forever era, and I've really liked how they've developed over the years. I'll be seeing them too, when they come to Buffalo in a couple weeks. I saw them during the AOM tour a couple years ago and I was disappointed when they didn't play anything before AOM. Hopefully they'll play at least a song or two from that time, though I don't have much hope. Also, Baldi has recently been collaborating with Nathan Williams from Wavves. I don't know if I can think of two better punk pop songwriters from the last five years, and the thought of them working together is scary good.
I took me a while to finally listen to Turning On but it's so good. It''s a pretty clear progression for their earlier work and then Attack on Memory happened. Did they just play AOM front to back and call it a night then? WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA. WHAT. How did I miss that!?
Yes, all eight cuts from AOM. It's hard to complain because it's such a good album, but there are some great songs hidden in Cloud Nothings back catalog. My bet is they'll mostly play HANE songs with a few AOM songs on the new tour. It literally just happened, I saw a few tweets and photos of them hanging out. No official details yet but apparently they recorded/wrote a decent number of songs.
