Whose incompetence? Mine or others'?

My incompetence: Try to learn from my mistakes.

Others' incompetence: Try to correct when appropriate. If not, do one of two things:

1) Grumble about it out of earshot using the nastiest words I can think of

2) Lambaste the person

Today I learned that "lambaste" and "lambast" are both appropriate spellings of the verb, although I have to admit that your version makes me think more of cooking meat - that is, basting lamb.

If another person acts like you would about other's incompetence with you, would it help you in some way ?

I'm not saying that what happens when I deal with my or others' incompetence is the ideal (the ideal is that everyone realizes their errors and fixes them). I'm saying that this is the way it can turn out.

It also ultimately comes down to whether the person perceives at any point in the process whether they have been incompetent.

I can constructively criticize all I want, but the other person has to conclude they fucked up to change. They don't? I get tetchy.
