Fifty-five percent of Americans think that they are smarter than the average American, according to a new survey by YouGov, a research organization that uses online polling. In other words, as YouGov cleverly points out, the average American thinks that he or she is smarter than the average American.
You know what? Fifty percent of Americans are smarter than the average American, by definition. The article doesn't cite sample size, so I have no reason to think a +/-5% error is unreasonable. Unfortunately, Americans' overblown self-confidence isn't something you need to convince me of.
What was it that Jim Jeffries said on America? "A nation of confident idiots," or something like that. I sit here constantly in doubt of whether I understand anything at all, in awe of so much more to learn and observe. Then there's people out here just like, "yeah I'm smarter than average." To quote a friend of mine: "How bitch, how!?"
