Just after the big /r/technology debacle over on reddit, I saw hubski mentioned way down a comment tree, so I decided to check it out. I've been lurking since, really enjoying it. I started to get a bit uncomfortable with Reddit, especially after seeing how it all works; There are moderators who are in charge of hundreds (hundreds!) of subreddits, especially the major ones, and there's a lot of evidence that they are paid to be redditors by marketing firms, they can push viewpoints and quash others, promote certain sites being linked and remove all others. After a while, I started seeing more and more karma farm accounts, the ones that submit hundreds of links a day to build up their karma and mature their account before selling it off for marketing purposes. It just started to grind on me, and eventually I ended up unsubscribing from dozens of subreddits, but the new wave of defaults came, and the smaller subreddits got default status, and I started to see the same things happen again.
