Americans view global warming by what they see outside their windows and not scientific evidence, according to a University of Michigan survey
This is why, after graduating from medical school, I not only want to become a practicing physician but a science advocate. It is abundantly clear (in cases such as the denial of evolution and climate change) that the general public is not willing to read scientific literature and is not willing to further their understanding of science, or more importantly, the process of science.
Hah, look at this guy, on the website, here. Listen, "stacker", I have a bunch of sources worth multimillions (sometimes even multibillions) in USD that tell me what's what. Science has a well-known liberal bias, and if you think you can just institute a scientific discussion here, well, I'm not raising my white flag just yet. All kidding aside, it's never that simple. Buncha people in every political situation around the globe think what they think, overwhelmingly, as a result of their native environments and external forcing. But wow, it's really sad when science gets politicized, just like every other facet of human technology. Ever. And yeah... hey, what is science, anyway? Greetings from Texas, the Bible Belt's buckle.
I appreciate your help, we're on the same team. :) Cheers, my friend.
It’s very much a shame that global climate change has broken down along the political fault lines, because unlike other political issues, it affects us all, seriously so—it should be an issue that brings people together. My belief is that it is a part of a larger problem in the United States, of a cultural of anti-intellectualism, for lack of a more specific term. There is a significant portion of Americans who regard academics, scientists and other topical experts with scorn and distrust. I hear many Americans talk about the ivory towers as being in opposition to the real world (or worse, the church), and a kind of animosity towards higher education and its denizens that troubles me deeply. If so many Americans hold a deep distrust of our nation’s experts and academics, what hope do we have? The political characterization of academia and expertise as a liberal threat prevents even many mainstream Republicans from trusting the scientific literature or consensus.
