The method is seemingly simple, but the fact that the thieves knew to focus on this particular vulnerability marks the Citigroup attack as especially ingenious, security experts said.
Ingenious? ROFL! I guess by ingenious they mean by trying a door that no one would think Citigroup would be stupid enough to leave open!
Those "hackers" did everyone a favor.
The expertise behind the attack, according to law enforcement officials and security experts, is a sign of what is likely to be a wave of more and more sophisticated breaches by high-tech thieves hungry for credit card numbers and other confidential information.
OMGROFL!!!
And to think I even made sure that changing the url while logged in wouldn't do that on Hubski...
Pretty sad that the NYT published such drivel. I love when unsourced experts are quoted. -"Yes, that is my quote. No, you can't use my name." My guess is that a NYT reporter was fed the quote by Citigroup, then they found a 'security expert' that agreed to be anonymously attributed with the quote.

NYT is running an ecommerce business now (since the paywall) and so they are definitely an interested party in any discussion of how "sophisticated" attacks lay down secure systems. So this is just honor among thieves -- which is (imo) the journalistic approach of NYTimes in all matters "fit to print"..
