As I've mentioned before, I'm a sucker for old-looking computers. It gives a desk personality! I finally claimed a monitor that works and I just had to show it off:
It's forever the 90s in this corner of the room.
Not wanting to hog the spotlight for myself, I think it would be interesting to see everyone else's workspace. Show me where the magic happens!
I had a nice old viewsonic 22" 1600x1200 CRT sitting in my parents' garage that my dad threw out eventually. I remember overdriving it to 1856x1392 when Compiz came out for the first time, it was glorious. It even blew some caps once but we repaired it. People made fun of me for years lugging that thing to LAN parties but they were always jealous. Now I'm lucky if I can find 1280 on a dumpstered LCD. I when i buy devices (I don't buy devices) i shop based purely on the display. There wasn't an android with decent rez until the nexus seven 2013 and was still only 1920x1200.
I will always love CRT monitors and TVs. It's jarring for me to see flat-panel screens anymore due to how washed out everything appears in comparison. I'll probably be a tube user for life... who needs HD?
Hell, old CRTs were better rez than HD. Even ancient LCDs were better, I've got a shitty old dell inspiron with a fucking geforce2 that had a 1600x1200. HD was just a buzzword to sell cheap TVs and then all the computer manufacturers followed suit because they could use the panels and beat the good monitors on economy of scale.
At the moment (and on work from home wednesdays) my desktop looks like this
What is that IRC setup? That looks neat as hell.
I love the Model M! Also, is that a Thinkpad back there? I think someone browses /g/. longstocking
Yes!! It's the FSF-endorsed Gluglug redistribution of the X60. It's treated me well. The only downside is that it doesn't really fit the beige theme!
Is that a mechanical keyboard?

apologies, just minutes old here, best way I could find to toss up a pic.
It is a mechanical keyboard, probably the oldest one still readily attainable. The Model M is a classic! The keys are unlike any other keyboard of its kind I've used before.
lxqt is fantastic. I have been using xfce for years and this is a bit quicker. I have always liked lxde and razor qt but both had their quirks that were a no go for me but this merge of the two is brilliant. Now if Manjaro can fix the update that broke the ability to find my cd/dvd drive I would be a happy man.
