- A senior Sunni politician who had previously been jailed on terrorism charges was seized from his home in Baghdad by gunmen, the police said Saturday.
It was not immediately clear whether the politician, Riyadh al-Adhadh, who leads the Baghdad Provincial Council, was arrested by security forces or abducted late Friday, the police said. Four of his bodyguards were also taken, according to a statement from the provincial council. The police officers spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.
There seems to be a lot of confusion and skepticism as to why a Sunni politician was seized.
As ISIS/militants continue to creep toward Baghdad, they're becoming more convinced that Iran is pulling the strings.
- In news of Iran meddling in Iraq, the Iraqi militants fighting the government of Nouri al-Maliki have captured a number of Iranians fighting in Al-Anbar province, a commander of Sunni militants has declared.
Hesam al-ddin al-Dulaimi, member of the Revolutionary Military Council in Al-Anbar province said that the Iranians are being held by militants, Iraqi TV network al-Raffedin reported.
“Maliki is getting orders from the Iranian regime and its Supreme Leader. He cannot even appoint a battalion commander or a manager unless the Iranian regime approves. Iran shamelessly meddles in all of Iraq’s affairs.”
“Maliki and others who are in the government are there to follow orders of the Iranian regime,” he said.
Al-Dulaimi said the Iraqi forces continue using barrel bombs to attack people in city of Fallauja.
He said that these brutal attacks have been carried out by Maliki and his masters in Tehran and Qum in Iran.
