Damn, I must have missed that paradigm shift.Where were you when Beyoncé sneak-released Beyoncé? I was asleep, but plenty of my peers were watching videos and Gchatting deep into the night. When I woke up on December 13, 2013, the pop landscape was different.
What a weird way to phrase it. "Best albums of the last four years" doesn't have the same ring to it, I guess...
Everytime I read one of these lists (except from Rolling Stone, oddly), I get hit in the face with "YOUR MUSICAL TASTE SUCKS." No Turn Blue on here? I guess that's not surprising since Pitchfork tanked it (shocker). Surprised to see Daft Punk's Random Access Memories so low on the list as well. Really disappointing, but I guess that's to be expected from Pitchfork.
Hoo boy, here we go. EDIT: never mind, this is a pretty solid list by Pitchfork's standards. Nearly everything they mention is a good album. It's not terribly inspired, in that I've heard of like 95 percent of them, but it'll do. Random Access Memories should be top five, though.
I should post their Top 200 tracks list. I can't say it exactly was a surprise, but choosing Grimes' "Oblivion" is a bit of a head scratcher. I think it's catchy, but not the best song made in the last five years.
