Well to be fair, anything by System of a Down is fair game. Particularly Hypnotize and Mesmorize which this song is from.
I was told Meshuggah and Lamb of God are options but they were nowhere near as interesting and far more redneck.
Meshuggah are the antithesis of redneck. They're music is over-intellectual if anything.
In my opinion, people who say that kind of stuff usually don't know what they're talking about. As far as I know, the only particularly mathematical thing that Meshuggah do is use odd time signatures and polyrythms. From a mathematical point of view, it's no more advanced than fractions. I HIGHLY doubt that Meshuggah use math for anything else, and I think you'll find that the more one conciously uses advanced math to compose music, the less listenable it is. You can find complex patterns in a lot of music if you go looking for it, but that doesn't mean that composers sit down an solve equations to make it. There is also a relationship between trigonometry and music, but it's mainly interesting from an analytic point of view, and isn't really something most people think of when making it. I could go into more detail, but I think I've proably said too much already!
Musically, and in their music videos, I get a distinct tinge I somehow associate with being American in a shitty way. I don't know what that means, but it's weird and it bothers me. Other bands I get the vibe from are Trapt, Three Days Grace, and Meshuggah.
I'm assuming that since it's been 2 weeks, you either got sucked into TDM like I did (which turned into a year long binge) or you didn't like what I suggested and ran away screaming bloody murder. So what's the verdict here? Want some more suggestions? With links this time to actual songs?
Sorry for the delay I've been slow to go on Hubski, Lamb of God is sick, and Chelsea Grin... well it's just crazy, so I'm glad I have somewhere to go if I'm ever in a mood like that :D I'll take a few links! I'm not dedicating myself to metal but I was more than happy to take a walk down that road and see the sights.
