So my uncle passed away on Tuesday. He'd been fighting liver problems for a while, and then contracted pneumonia, and eventually it was too much. I feel really bad for my aunt. She had been unmarried for 50-odd years, and finally 2 or 3 years ago reconnected with this guy, her old boyfriend from high school, and they just hit it off. They were married about a year ago, so to lose him now is just terrible. But here's the thing - I don't feel particularly bad for my uncle. Honestly part of me thinks he deserved it: his doctors prescribed a diet and some medication, but apparently he just went on the diet and didn't take the meds. Couple this with my belief that the dead don't deserve any more respect just because they're dead, and I end up sounding like a jerk. It's a weird situation.
