Yeah, the 1% penalty for the ease of use of USD exchange into BTC is a price a lot of peeps aren't willing to pay but at least you have that option with Coinbase in the US (soon to come to Europe apparently). Most of the world still has to go through online manual exchanges all with their own fees. I guess the way around those fees is to start offering services and products for BTC. Easier said than done of course but it'll be awesome when the day arrives that we're able to live with BTC as the main value of exchange.
