I spent 2.5 hours driving to Detroit through white-out conditions and poor drivers. About 30 minutes of that was spent in a deli trying different kinds of gourmet hams/various other smoked meats, so the drive wasn't all bad. Then I hung out with my girlfriend, cooked a crazy good meal (Which I'll discuss in detail only if prompted, don't want to sound too much like I'm bragging) drank a bunch of crazy good wine, and basically had the best Valentine's Day of my life. Disclaimer, this is the first V-Day in my 22 years that I've actually had someone special to celebrate it with.
(You asked for it :D ) First course: Arugula salad with shaved Parmesan and balsamic vinaigrette. Paired with a really good white wine that I forget the name of. Excellent mix of sweet/dry Second course: Bay scallops cooked in butter with Benton's Country Ham ala this recipe deglazed with brandy, served on garlic cauliflower puree. Paired with Gewurztraminer. Third course: Round steaks, cooked to a very happy medium served with a poached egg. Paired with Three Daughters Red. Dessert: Chocolate mousse layered on top of some kind of dark chocolate cake. This is the only bit that I didn't make, I was going to do a salt caramel cheesecake but had a bit of an... explosion in the oven while I was making it. Not quite sure how that happened.
