For a while the fun trend was to measure all of these numbers in basic income units ... 791 billion would be enough to give every citizen over age 21 x free dollars per year ... but for this one I suspect the result is just too depressing, so I won't try. And unlike most of you on here, I don't default to hating the DHS (or whatever alphabet soups they're putting under the homeland security umbrella) and I think some of that stuff is necessary -- the TSA, in some form or another, for example -- but still. There's not a whole lot that should cost 800 billion dollars.
