I agree. It's also one much more closely aligned with the spirit of MOOFing.

It could be argued that social sites in general (especially ones that provide little actionable or educational information) are rent seekers. Is Facebook is a $100B MOOF of global attention?

Exactly, I was afraid when I said rent seeking partisan hack from all sides would try make it fit to their narrow definition. Hubski really is a great place. I think rent seeking is the most important understudied economic issue.

I'm apt to agree. At least I'd like to encounter more discussion of it. The consensus seems to be that if you are making money at something, you are doing something of value. Or at least something that has a right to be done.

my training is in economic anthropology.

Doing something of value would mean increasing calories for the group less than 1% of people do that. we are most of us goldbrickers.
