Syncing is a pain in the ass. Attempting to sync things across multiple browsers, multiple OSes and multiple computers has caused me so much pain.
I remain skeptical, but cautiously optimistic. It could not suck?
It was just a name and a fancy corporate presentation that doesn't address anything anyone wants in a browser except for one not called Internet Explorer. It's neutral news tending towards disappointing If anyone can fuck up what people obviously want it's Microsoft
IMO the most exciting news from BUILD today is Continuum. I had a hunch they were slowly moving in this direction with universal applications and the same OS everywhere, but I didn't think they'd make the full push in this direction. Instead of using whatever third party services to sync all of my files and web history and searches and email across devices, I can run single instances of all of my applications and files on one computer. This is the same thing Canonical is doing with Unity 8 for Ubuntu. It probably won't be pretty (or popular) for a while, but in my estimation this the start of a paradigm shift in computing. I'm really really excited to be able to have a pocket computer that I can plug into a monitor and keyboard, or a tv and gamepad, and have it adapt to the environment and be able to use all the exact same apps. You can have one smart device instead of a smartphone, laptop, desktop computer, work computer, and three game consoles (yeah, this is a little ways off, but this is a step towards that future). I'm excited.
Looks like it has a couple of neat features, maybe it'll get its fair share of casual users, which might be content with what the browser has to offer. We'll see how it'll work out, when they show some preview and some tech sites do some tests. Speaking of browsers, probably not many of you have heard Vivaldi. It's a browser which is targeted at a more hardcore audience, since it's being programmed my some folks from the old Opera (before it became v15). It's only been out since end of January, and it's already in Tech Preview 3, with the Beta as the next milestone. It's really stable (considering it's TP3) and I might even switch from Firefox to Vivaldi when it reaches Beta. Really excited for it, if they keep the pace and come up with new stuff (stacked tab tiling <3) as they did with Opera, I have a new favorite probs :)
