What is a religious relic? Why are these objects so important to so many Christians throughout the world? Is it the mere fact of touching something and having a tactile connection which brings the stories to life for us? If so, does that speak to a lack of faith?
If a piece of Christ’s cross is sitting in a church somewhere and we can actually go and see it, for good many of us it seems as though suddenly the entire story surrounding Christ’s death becomes more real. If we go to Israel and see the spot which was the tomb Christ was laid in, it seems to put flesh on a story we otherwise aren’t too certain about.
Is our modern church structure based upon this same need for the tangible as well? Why do we follow a traditional church structure which wasn’t at all what Jesus Christ preached; which isn’t at all what the Apostles put together?
Join Chase Rockwell, Lou Rodgers and Mark Wilson as they discuss these relics – both the archaeological objects as well as the mindset which has pervaded the orthodox church today.
