I have heard a lot of good things about Duck Duck Go, the alternative search he suggested, but I have never seem to get the same quality of results. Perhaps it is because Google knows so much about me that it can show more relevant results to my searches.

I personally use DDG and Google together. There are definitely places where they don't overlap.

One thing that I really like about DDG is the search suggestions they have to the right of the results. Often it suggests something useful that I wouldn't have otherwise thought of. Also, DDG has a 'more results' link that appears on the bottom right if you hover over a result. If you click on it, it will give a site-specific search for your terms. -That's often useful. However, as far as site-specific results go, I think Google's are better.

My girlfriend doesn't like DDG, because its results are not personalized as Google's. I tried giving her the privacy speech, but she thinks it's fine as long as Google search is giving her the results she wants.

Any good counter-arguments?

There was actually a really good comment that got bestof'd on reddit about why you should care about privacy. I've been trying to find it for a while.

A lot of people just don't see why you should care and the comment brought up a bunch of points.

I think you might be referring to shits-n-giggle's comment here.
