Yeah. I saw that in my comment diving. Someone posted a pic. The thing is though, that's all she said. A single sentence. No follow up. No counter explanation. The /r/pics subreddit is going through quite a bit of drama too. Users are mad that they came out of private mode. Some blame /u/allthefoxes while others say the admins took control. Personally, if these screenshots of an IRC chat between the mods is legit, /u/allthefoxes isn't looking too hot right now. During the night people were also posting pure black images in protest, which all gotten taken down. Now they're posting various "victoria" images instead. Lots of people are making noise all over the place, especially putting heat on /u/kn0thing. I gotta say, I've been on Reddit for almost five years now. I think it hit its peak a year or two back and its been downhill since. I'll probably sound like an asshole saying this, but I'm kind of entertained by what's going on. I like seeing big things fall apart. Edit: Now all posts on /r/pics that have any reference to "Victoria" are being removed. Man. Talk about digging yourself a deeper hole.
I feel you. I'm trying to get the people from the badacademics subs to consider splitting their time between there and here.I'll probably sound like an asshole saying this, but I'm kind of entertained by what's going on. I like seeing big things fall apart.
Well, whom have you succeeded in bringing (apart from me and @zackscary ) ?
My issue getting the people I like over is that the main subs I use have been pretty mcuh unaffected due to small size. Beyond the huge subs, in the long tail, things tend to get over these little bumps just fine. My fav (and now pretty much only) sub had only one comment I. the previous exodus, and I didn't notice anyone leave. But now, some recruitment may be in order.
I'd have a similar problem. The people I'd love to see over here are pretty hardcore into their subject matters. I don't know if Hubski would have the volume of content that they'd want to see on a consistent basis. I'm actually posting a lot about cars and will post quite a bit about boxing to maybe plant some of those seeds. I don't know how well I'll be able to pull it off.
Yeah, I think for now Hubski will be more of a general interest/dabbling site for most users. What's absolutely wonderful though is that so many people here seem to be very intelligent and insightful, which leads to great discussions. That in my opinion more than makes up for the lack of specialization.
I came in right before the peak, I had about maybe 6 months in when it just started changing overnight. I noticed that top posts were all garbage, I actually deleted all the default subs, except politics, and even that got dumped recently. It's definitely been sinking. It's just a huge ship so it's taking a while. That being said, you don't sound like an asshole actually.
Yeah. I always used Reddit for the subreddits. It was very convenient to have one single account on a single site than have multiple accounts across a spectrum of different forums. At the same time, it offered me the bonus of sometimes stumbling on new things. Personally, I think I noticed a change around my fifth or sixth account, so about 2 years ago. It was like overnight, people just stopped trying. They stopped trying to find new and interesting things to talk about. They stopped trying to have open and honest discussions. They stopped trying to meet people half way during debates. They stopped trying to promote OC. On and on and on. The fact that people like /u/gallowboob can reap so much karma today when three or four years ago people would have hated him for what he does is very telling.
