- The political left might be characterized by division and feuding, but there is one issue that creates unanimity: The United Kingdom's membership of the European Union. Factions divided on practically every issue snap to agreement on how to vote in 2017 – it's probably the only topic where you'll find agreement among everyone between Progress and Worker's Liberty. Among my own demographic – I am a young, university educated Londoner, active in the Green Party – it is not even a question. When I suggested to a few of my peers that we discuss the real problems of the EU, and how to respond to them, I was given the opinion that it was best to just avoid such matters: if other people realised how bad the EU could be, they might vote to leave.
This is my own writing. In the UK, being on the left pretty well means supporting the EU, and this is something I've become ever more uncomfortable about.
