My title may not capture what I meant very well... Hopefully the text below does. Let me know if it doesn't!
I really enjoy art, but as far as I know, there aren't any streamlined services that allow people to explore it thoroughly and efficiently.
In other words, are there any internet-based art galleries? I'd really like a site that compiles relevant information (style(s) used, info about the artist, etc) on a piece-by-piece basis.
Wikipedia is alright, but it tends to have more extraneous information and the focus is more on text rather than the art itself.
These might be helpful: https://www.artsy.net/ http://www.wikiart.org/de/paintings-by-style http://www.moma.org/collection/works?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=&classifications= http://www.artyfactory.com/art_appreciation/art_movements/art_movements.htm Very wordy, but seems to be a way to explore a wide variety of art movements: http://www.artcyclopedia.com/ This one's a bit text-heavy, but you might like it: http://www.visual-arts-cork.com/site/art-styles.htm
The closest thing I could find would be something like this: http://www.wikiart.org/ I hope it's the sort of thing you were after! Seems to have quite a bit of detail about style, materials etc. Most of the pieces I've looked at have had a decent description/background included as well! Hope it helps :)
