Another subject on which I feel a lot more confident until I actually try to come up with an answer.

Without research, I'll say the United States produces 40% of the petroleum it consumes, mostly in Alaska and the Gulf region.

The top import source is Canada. Number two is Mexico. Number three is maybe Saudi Arabia, and Russia and Nigeria are probably in the top ten. Venezuela is a big exporter but I guess the U.S. isn't buying. Iraq is probably still a trickle.

I am wondering about this. I suppose the dollars don't make it past the gatekeepers.
